The Nursery

Hornsey Day Nursery and Preschool operates across two sites, one on Hornsey Road (c/w Spears Road) where we care for babies under the age of two and the other on New Orleans Walk (off Cromartie Road) where we care for toddlers and preschool children. Each site is inspected separately and Ofsted has graded each site ‘Good’ in all areas of learning. You will find the report for the baby room on the Ofsted website here and the report for the Toddler & Preschool site here.

Despite having been graded ‘Good’ throughout, we are not complacent and we constantly review our processes and procedures. We constantly train and mentor our staff to maintain the highest of standards to ensure that the children continue to receive excellent care, coupled with learning opportunities that will prepare them for lifelong learning.

The nursery is open from 8am to 6pm from Monday to Friday all year, except for a two-week holiday over the Christmas period and bank holidays.

The Learning Environment

There are four rooms in the nursery, two at one site and another two at the other. Each room is designed to meet the needs of the children, according to their age and stage of development.

The two rooms at the Baby Room site, one for very young babies who are not yet walking properly and the other for pre-toddlers, are bright and airy with high ceilings and plenty of natural light and good ventilation. Equipped with suitable furniture and abundant age-appropriate resources, they provide the children with ample opportunity to learn and play.

Apart from having the privilege of an on-site 400 square-metre garden, the Toddler & Preschool site includes a room for toddlers (two year-olds) and another for preschool children. Each of them has spaces specifically designed to promote personal and emotional development, the understanding of life experiences along with language and early numerical learning as well as art and physical development.

Who We Are

Hornsey Day Nursery is run by a team of dedicated and competent teachers with experience in different educational establishments both in the UK and abroad. Many are qualified to degree level (some with a Masters) and are extremely passionate about our ethos of always putting a child’s needs first. This creates a positive, secure and happy environment for the staff and for the children.

Soon after your child starts nursery, they are allocated to a key worker, whose principal role is to ensure that your child is developing at or above the expected milestones in each area of learning in the relevant age group. Every day, you will be given verbal feedback about your child (not necessarily by their key worker) and this includes information on what your child has been up to, how they felt through the day and you will be told of any new achievements as they develop and learn.

We offer a healthy and balanced diet of food through the three main meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) that are served through each day. We are able to make adjustments to the four week menu to cater for children with allergies and intolerances and to provide for families with cultural and/or lifestyle choices.
