Common Questions and Dilemmas

1. Should I trust what other parents say?

Many parents come to us on the basis of a recommendation from one or more parents. Parents views are most certainly important but may differ greatly. This is partly due to expectations but also to the differences between children. It is important that an objective view is taken of parents’ opinions. At the end of the day, what matters most is what you see and feel when you visit the nursery.

2. One setting is near where we live, but the other feels like it will suit our child better – which one should we choose?

Convenience is certainly an important factor to take into consideration. However, we believe that you should go for a nursery that is right for your child. A nursery on your doorstep will not make up for an unhappy child or one where your child will not thrive.

3. Should I let my child choose their early years setting?

No. The responsibility of which nursery your child goes rests with you. As an adult, you have more experience of the world and can take a long-term view. Young children tend to take a subjective and short-term view based on their immediate experience. Notwithstanding, it is worth observing your child’s reaction to staff and other children during your visit although this is likely to change with time.
